Gustavo agradece novamente! W Brasil; =)

  2. Hey Gustavo! I just read a couple chapters out of your new book on Safari. I absolutely love it man! So glad that you can clearly explain these topics and still inject some humor into your writing. I hope many more publications come from you!

    • Thanks for your feedback, Jason!
It’s great to hear that you’ve enjoyed the book’s rough cut on Safari. In the final version You may notice some new jokes (mainly because some could not resist many reviews :).
Hope to see you again here!
      Cheers,
      Gustavo

  3. Hey Gustavo, my book is already on its way (pre-ordered @ amazon)!!! I´m very interested in the topics listed there since I´m currently studying for the CCNA/CCNP Data Center certs.

Congrats for this great achievement. Cheers!!!

    • Thanks for your support, Daniel!
The book indeed covers a big part of the Data Center certifications. But if you find a cert topic that deserves a closer look, please feel fere to tell me!
      Cheers,
      Gustavo

  4. HI Gustavo,

It is 05:44 AM in the morning, and have not slept the night.
Just finished reading of information disclosed by Safari for preview, and found it as really great, even easy to read for non-native speaker, so I’m just about to checkout on ciscopress.com to get my own E-Book.

Data Center is a scale you describe is a new paradime for me,

    I though of preparing for CCNA Data Center as a good start; seems that the only trouble exam is 640-916 DCICT;
How well do you sink you have covered 640-916 DCICT exam topics?

May we (readers) expect some Virtual LAB hints, Typologies and etc to be available at any time soon from you into this blog?

Would be great if you can share your thoughts of what is possible to use for setting up kind of Virtual / home or hosted LAB.

    Thank you.

    • Hi Yevgenuy,
I hope the rough cut on Safari didn’t cause you permanent insomnia 🙂
The book covers almost everything from the aforementioned exam, but I highly suggest that you try to get your hands “dirty” through some labs before.
In the next post I will talk about some links that can provide wonderful hands-on resources. Stay tuned!
      Thanks for ordering the book,
      Gustavo

  6. Hi Gustavo, I’m reading your book in Safari. I like it a lot, is easy to read and has all the info. At the moment, the only suggestion I can make is related to pinning max-link command section. I can’t understand it from the book and found a more clear explanation here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9670/C07-572829-01_Design_N5K_N2K_vPC_DG.pdf

Is just my opinion but maybe is useful for you.
    Thanks for this great book!
    Guido

  7. Oi Gustavo,

  8. Hello Gustavo, i ordered your book via Amazon , and i have started to read it deeply.
You did an excellent Job to add all the technologies in one book and well explained
I m french DC consultant ,spiecialized in cisco technologies and this book wil help in my daily jobs ( like a huge swiss knife)
    Thanks
    Bert

      • hello,, i continue to read it, and i perhaps notice an cosmetic issue at page 271 , between the figure 6-25 and the text below
the figure is oK but the text below ( written from 200 shoud be S300)
Same thing for 2nd part of the text ( written received from 300 should be from 400)
        I ‘ m right or missed something ?
For sure , i’ m continuing to read it deeply until the end ( Heavy swiss Knife in my pro backpack !)
        Bert

      • Sorry for the late response, Bert.
You are right. There is a mistake in the figure (left-upper switch should be S200 and right-upper switch should be S300).
I will forward it to CiscoPress to see it corrected in the reprint.
        Thanks,
        Gustavo

  9. Dear Gustavo Santana,

I was happy enough to acquire your book at the Cisco Data Center Design & Deployment Seminar in September, in Rio de Janeiro, and to meet you personally. It took me sometime to be able to start reading your book, which I have done this past week. I would like to leave you a compliment on your excelent writing and for a very agreable reading. I look forward to continue reading your book to the end. I appreciate specially that you gave a lot of thought to finding and defining the concepts involved in virtualization, which are helping me to build a consistent frame of mind around this new subject for me.

I don´t know if this place is appropriate for that, but I can´t find another to leave my professional contact for you, so that I can keep in touch with you in the future. So, please note my email address in Banco do Brasil: astrid@bb.com.br

Congratulations on your brilliant work, wish you success in your ongoing career, and best regards,

  10. Oi Gustavo, estava lendo o seu livro e tem um capítulo dedicado ao ACE… Porém, ouvi falar que a Cisco está parando com o desenvolvimento deste produto… É verdade isso? Quais serão os novos planos para Load Balancing?
    Abs, Sidney

  11. Dear Gustavo, I dont’ understand “Allocation of VLAN Resources” example on pg 206-207-208. In particular i don’t understand in Example 5-21:

    1) Why the reserved Vlan in VDC1 are from 4032 to 4059 ?

    2) Why the Total number of VLANs for VDC1 is 19 and not 30 (4032-4059 + 1 + 10) ?

    3) Why in VDC2 and VDC3 only Vlan 4042 is reserved ?

In general i understand the sense of BD —it seems a sort of RD of MBGP 😉 to make unique the vlan inside nexus but in detail i dont’understand well…

    Thanks so much

    Giuseppe

    • Hi, Giuseppe! How are you?
Let´s go straight to your questions.
      1) The following command may uncover the use of VLANs 4032-4059:

      N7K# show vlan internal usage

      VLANs DESCRIPTION
      ——————- —————–
      3968-4031 Multicast
      4032-4035,4048-4059 Online Diagnostic
      4036-4039,4060-4087 ERSPAN
      4042 Satellite
      4040 Fabric scale
      3968-4095 Current

      2) Unfortunately, because I didn´t want to have too many lines of code in the book, the “output suppressed” phrase in Example 5-21 gave the impression that the VLANs were contiguous . Actually, here is the unedited command:

      N7K# show vlan internal bd-info vlan-to-bd all-vlan

VDC Id Vlan Id BD Id
      —— ——- ——-
      1 1 1
      1 10 36
      1 4032 3

      1 4033 4
      1 4034 5
      1 4035 6

      1 4042 7
      1 4048 8
      1 4049 9

      1 4050 10
      1 4051 11
      1 4052 12

      1 4053 13
      1 4054 14
      1 4055 15

      1 4056 16
      1 4057 33
      1 4058 34

      1 4059 35

As you can see, the number of VLANs is: 1 + 10 + 4032-4035 + 4042 + 4048-4059 = 19 VLANs. For sure, I will include an observation in the next edition to clarify this issue. Thanks for this feedback!!!

      3) VDC2 and VDC3 do not have to worry about Online Diagnostics, ERSPAN, and Fabric Scale VLANs. However, because the support Fabric Extenders (Nexus 2000 devices) they require the Satellite VLAN (4042). Example 7-2 in Chapter 7 explains what is the use of this VLAN.

I hope the answers helped you.
Thank you again for your contributions to the blog and keep in touch!
      Gustavo
